Duas semanas antes de dar início a série de shows em celebração ao álbum "Achtung Baby" (1991) em Las Vegas, o U2, usou novamente a cidade como cenário de um clipe. Na mesma Fremont Street onde, 36 anos atrás, eles gravaram o vídeo de "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", eles mostraram o novo single "Atomic City" em uma performance surpresa realizada no sábado (16).
O título, um antigo apelido para a cidade, foi inspirado segundo Bono no pós-punk do final dos anos 70 e em artistas como Blondie, The Clash e Cozy Powell. Larry Mullen Jr., que não irá tocar nos shows por ainda estar se recuperando de uma cirurgia na coluna, também estava presente, desmentindo os rumores de que estaria cogitando deixar o grupo que fundou - na temporada em Las Vegas, quem irá substituí-lo será o holandês Bram van den Berg.
A banda se apresentou na traseira de um caminhão-plataforma e foi filmada enquanto se moviam pela área da Fremont Street. Quando o caminhão parou, uma plateia de cerca de 250 figurantes contratados correram em direção ao caminhão enquanto a música era tocada. Embora os vocais de Bono fossem ao vivo, o restante da banda não estava ao vivo e os instrumentos foram pré-gravados.

Conforme noticiado no último dia 12, a gravação do single começou com Steve Lillywhite no verão na França e foi finalizada esta semana nos estúdios LAFX e Sound City Studios em Los Angeles. Jacknife Lee também colaborou na produção. É esperado que o single seja lançado no próximo dia 29 de setembro, data de abertura da “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere”.
