Quando falamos de U2, é impossível não fazer associações com sentimentos, tais como: amor, paixão, amizade, fé, perseverança, justiça, união, compaixão, coexistência, perdão.

Todos estes sentimentos que nos remetem à banda, principalmente às letras das canções e, naturalmente, passa a fazer parte da vida de nós fãs.

Cada um de nós, em particular, teria uma história para contar envolvendo alguns destes sentimentos. Um deles, em especial, me motivou a contar uma história de comoção e amizade envolvendo um fã britânico. Este sentimento é a AMIZADE!

A história a seguir retrata o surgimento do "mascote" Little Joshua bear, tão querido pelos fãs do U2, mas principalmente, retrata uma história de amizade envolvendo um fã, chamado Alan Robins.

Alan, um fã britânico, tinha planejado estar em vários shows do U2 em 2017 para celebrar a turnê dos 30 anos do álbum ‘The Joshua Tree’, assim como muitos outros fãs ao redor do mundo.

Para o início da turnê, ele tinha planos de estar na estreia em Vancouver, Canadá, em 12 de maio de 2017, bem como em Seatle, nos EUA, logo em seguida.

Estes eram seus planos. Porém, em rãzão de um "acaso do destino", Alan não concretizou sua ida à Vancouver, conforme planejado.

Em meio aos preparativos para viagem, ele foi diagnosticado com uma doença terminal.

Iniciou-se então, uma batalha contra a doença.

Doença esta que, subitamente, o impediu de concretizar seu sonho, pois ele veio a falecer em abril de 2017.

Alan tinha encontrado muitos fãs do U2 ao longo de sua história com a banda, tocando muitos corações com seu jeito de ser.

Dentre eles, uma fã especial, chamada Sam Hallet.

Sam, ao saber dessa história, prontamente idealizou algo que pudesse servir de lembrança eterna para a turnê e que remetesse ao que a Alan representava como fã.

Tempos antes, Sam havia sido diagnosticada com uma doença crônica que a impedia de se levantar da cama. Naquela época, Sam fez um "livro de recados" para si mesma, para que pudesse lê-lo e relembrar sobre os bons momentos sempre que precisasse lembrar de algo positivo.

Anos depois, assim que soube da morte de Alan (embora Sam nunca o tenha conhecido pessoalmente - isto aconteceria na viagem de trem de Vancouver para Seatle) ela pediu para um amigo de Alan, Martin Ward, se poderia utilizar sua mesma ideia do livro de memórias para Alan. Desta vez, o livro teria uma companhia mais do que especial: “Little Joshua, the Bear".

Nasce então ursinho mais querido por todos os fãs do U2, Little Joshua!

Joshua é o símbolo real de amor e amizade entre os fãs de U2 e tem se tornado uma das figuras mais adoradas durante a turnê.

O ursinho tinha como missão, estar presente em todos os shows no mundo e Sam, sua criadora, se tornou a “mãe” do Joshua.

A peregrinação de Joshua só seria possível se houvesse um engajamento dos demais fãs e isso não foi uma missão impossível, embora desafiadora.

Imediatamente, Sam entrou em contato com alguns fãs para pedir ajuda no "transporte" de Joshua de cidade para cidade. A ideia era, cada fã que fosse em dois shows seguidos tinha que ser o responsável pela guarda do ursinho, esse foi o único pedido que ela fez.

Tudo o que estes fãs, denominados “os guardiões de Joshua”, tinham que fazer era levá-lo de um show até o próximo show e pedir para os fãs assinassem o livro de memórias que o acompanhava.

A comunidade “guardiões de Joshua” foi então criada. A parte mais importante da jornada é certamente o livro assinado pelos fãs, que será entregue à família de Alan para que eles leiam as mensagens deixadas pelos fãs de todo mundo e carreguem com si, mensagem de positividade para serem lidas sempre que preciso.

Joshua iria apenas para os shows nos Estados Unidos, Canadá e Europa. Porém, quando foram anunciadas mais datas para os Estados Unidos e também América Latina, Sam retomou sua saga atrás de fãs que estivessem dispostos a leva-lo a estes shows.

O sentimento de fazer parte da jornada de Joshua e esta união entre os fãs está sendo muito especial e emocionante durante os últimos meses.

Joshua já vivenciou momentos surreais, como por exemplo o dia em que Bono o conheceu em Los Angeles (entregue por um fã brasileiro chamado Fabiano Mad) e assinou sua camisetinha. Naquela oportunidade Bono disse: “eu sou o pai do ursinho”.

Joshua também esteve no palco, ficou “sentado” no espaço de Larry Mullen Jr, além de ter sido levado para o ‘Death Valley’, local onde ficava a árvore ‘Joshua’ (a paisagem original do álbum de 1987), por Fernando e Eduardo, do U2 Valência. Joshua também esteve com vários membros do staff da turnê e da própria banda. Em suma, ele esteve em lugares desejados pelos fãs da banda. Um grande feito para um ursinho.

E agora, Joshua está chegando ao Brasil para a parte final da turnê. Nós estamos ansiosos e felizes para recebê-lo por aqui, pois certamente será memorável compartilhar bons momentos com nosso "mascote"e seus ‘guardiões’ nos honrarão muito bem com esta tarefa.

Eu serei, orgulhosamente, o guardião de Joshua no quarto do Brasil (o último show da tour), antes de entregá-lo para seu guardião final que o levará para o Reino Unido para um descanso merecido, junto à familia de Alan Robins.

Muitos de nós não tivemos a chance de conhecer Alan, mas agora ele tem um lugar especial em nossos corações pela imagem de Little Joshua e ele ele será profundamente lembrado quando o U2 tocar ‘Ultraviolet’, música favorita de Alan.

When we speak about U2, it is impossible not to make associations with feelings, such as love, passion, friendship, faith, perseverance, justice, union, compassion, coexistence, forgiveness.

All these feelings that bring us back to the band, especially the lyrics of the songs and, naturaly, become part of the lives of us, fans.

Each of us, in particular, would have a story to tell about some of these feelings. One of them, in particular, motivated me to tell a story of commotion and friendship involving a british fan. This feeling is FRIENDSHIP!

The following story shows the emergence of the Little Joshua bear "mascot", so beloved by U2 fans, but most notably, shows a friendship story involving a fan named Alan Robins.

Alan, a british fan, had planned to attend several U2 shows in 2017 to celebrate the 30-year tour of The Joshua Tree album as well as many other fans around the world.

For the beginning of the tour, he had plans to be in the opening show in Vancouver, Canada, on May 12, 2017, as well as in Seattle, USA, right after.

These were his plans. But in the throes of "chance fate," Alan did not make it to Vancouver as planned.

Amidst travel arrangements, he was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Then began a battle against the disease.

A disease that suddenly prevented him from realizing his dream, as he died in April 2017.

Alan had met many U2 fans throughout his history with the band, touching many hearts with their way of being.

Among them, a special fan, called Sam Hallet.

Sam, knowing this story, promptly devised something that could serve as an eternal remembrance for the tour and that would go back to what Alan represented as a fan.

Some time before, Sam had been diagnosed with a chronic illness that kept her from getting out of bed. At that time, Sam made a "scrapbook" for herself so she could read it and reminisce about the good times whenever she needed to remember something positive.

Years later, as soon as he learned of Alan's death (although Sam never met him personally - this would happen on the Vancouver train ride to Seattle) she asked Alan's friend, Martin Ward, if he could use his own idea of the book memories for Alan. This time the book would have a company more than special: "Little Joshua, the Bear".

It was born then the dearest teddy by all U2 fans, Little Joshua!

Joshua is the real symbol of love and friendship among fans of U2 and has become one of the most beloved figures during the tour.

The teddy bear had a mission, to be present at all the shows in the world and Sam, its creator, became the "mother" of Joshua.

Joshua's pilgrimage would only be possible if there was an engagement of the other fans and this was not an impossible mission, but challenging.

Immediately, Sam contacted some fans to ask for help in Joshua's "transportation" from town to town. The idea was, every fan that was in two shows in a row had to be the one responsible for keeping the teddy bear, that was the only request she made.

All these fans, called "the guardians of Joshua", had to take him from a show to the next show and ask the fans to sign the accompanying memoir.

The community "guardians of Joshua" was then created. The most important part of the journey is certainly the book signed by the fans, which will be delivered to Alan's family so they can read the messages left by the fans of the world and carry with them a message of positivity to be read whenever needed.

Joshua would just go to the shows in the United States, Canada and Europe. But when more dates were announced for the United States and Latin America, Sam resumed hir saga looking for fans who were willing to take him to these shows.

The feeling of being part of Joshua's journey and this union between the fans has been very special and exciting over the last few months.

Joshua has experienced surreal moments, such as the day Bono met him in Los Angeles (delivered by a Brazilian fan named Fabiano Mad) and signed his tunic. On that occasion Bono said: "I am the father of the teddy bear".

Joshua was also on stage, was "seated" in the space of Larry Mullen Jr, and was taken to the Death Valley, where was the Joshua tree (the original landscape of the 1987 album) by Fernando and Eduardo, from U2 Valencia. Joshua was with several tour staff members and the band itself. In short, he has been in places desired by the fans of the band. A great feat for a teddy bear.

And now, Joshua is coming to Brazil for the final part of the tour. We are anxious and happy to welcome him here, as it will certainly be a memorable moment to share our "mascot" and your 'guardians' will honor us very well with this task.

I'll be proudly the Joshua's guardian in Brazil's last show before handing him over to his final guardian who will take him to the UK for a well-deserved break with the family of Alan Robins.

Many of us did not get a chance to meet Alan, but now he has a special place in our hearts for the image of Little Joshua and he will be deeply remembered when U2 plays 'Ultraviolet', Alan's favorite song.
